Why is my solid wood furniture cracking or warping?

Solid wood is a living material that reacts to ambient humidity. When the air is dry, it contracts; when the air is humid, it expands. This movement can cause cracks or slight warping if the design or maintenance does not take this natural phenomenon into account.
