Products and materials

Robin des Bois Furniture is designed and crafted with care in our family factories. Founded over 30 years ago by our parents, each is now managed by one of their children, all brought together within the same group. The design and manufacturing are based on a dual foundation: in France and Vietnam.

This choice allows us to combine traditional artisanal expertise with rigorous quality control, while incorporating the most advanced woodworking technologies and machinery. This enables us to offer durable, aesthetically pleasing, and high-quality furniture at an affordable cost.

We place particular importance on monitoring each stage of production to guarantee our clients well-crafted products that meet international standards and uphold our standards of excellence.

Our furniture is primarily designed in certified oak, but also in acacia, pine, and rubberwood depending on the models. We use solid wood as well as engineered veneer to ensure stability and durability. The metallic elements (steel and alloys), tempered glass, as well as protective finishes such as varnish or oils that comply with European low VOC emission standards complement the quality of our products. For textiles, we prioritize natural or high-quality materials like linen, cotton velvet, and polyester velvet. Each product sheet details precisely the wood type, its finish, and the components used.

We carefully select each type of wood and its origin to ensure durability, aesthetics, and quality for all our furniture.

  • Oak: A robust and resistant wood, known for its fine texture and pronounced grain, ideal for classic or contemporary furniture due to its longevity.

  • Rubberwood: A hard and light-colored wood, appreciated for its stability and homogeneous grain, perfect for minimalist or Scandinavian design creations.

  • Acacia: A hard wood with slender trunks, offering beautiful color variations ranging from white to dark brown, giving each piece a unique character.

  • Pine: A softer, lightweight, and warm wood, suitable for painted furniture and economical interiors without compromising on quality.

All our wood comes from sustainably managed forests, respecting the environment. We ensure complete traceability, from the original forest to delivery to our customers, thus guaranteeing the longevity of our creations while minimizing our ecological impact.

We do not offer customised manufacturing on a per-unit basis. All our furniture is designed and produced in series, which allows us to guarantee consistent quality, reliable delivery times and fair prices.

Customisation is limited: it only applies to certain fabrics (linen, cotton velvet, polyester velvet), available in limited series depending on stock. We do not currently offer modifications to the dimensions, materials or colours of our furniture.

That said, our collection includes a wide variety of models, styles and finishes to suit different needs and interiors. If you have a specific request, our team is available to advise you.

For large-scale professional projects (hotels, offices, retail), we consider requests for special manufacturing for a minimum of 30 pieces. Please feel free to contact our sales team to discuss this.

We offer a wide range of prices to meet different needs and budgets.
Our items start at €29, for decorative pieces like cushions, and can reach around €3,000 for more substantial furniture, such as a solid wood display cabinet.

This price diversity reflects both:

  • The variety of products

  • The quality of the materials used

  • The artisanal craftsmanship and durability of the pieces offered

Yes. All furniture benefits from the legal guarantees in France:

  • Legal guarantee of conformity (from the date of delivery).

  • Legal guarantee against hidden defects (from the discovery of the defect).
Depending on the models, a commercial guarantee may be added; its duration is listed on the product sheet.

What the guarantee covers: manufacturing/structural defects, defective hardware, abnormal finishing anomalies.

Natural characteristics of wood (not covered by the guarantee): our furniture is made of real wood, a living material that may have knots, color variations, and more or less pronounced grain patterns. These natural characteristics may alter the visual appearance of a piece compared to photos (lighting, screen); they do not constitute a defect under legal guarantees and are not covered by the guarantee.

General exclusions: normal wear and tear, misuse, impacts, excessive humidity, direct heat exposure, modifications, improper maintenance, non-intended professional use (except for dedicated ranges).

How to benefit: contact our customer service with your order number, photos/videos, and product reference; we will conduct a diagnosis and then arrange repair, exchange, replacement part, or refund as appropriate. Precise terms are indicated on each product sheet and summarized in our T&Cs.

Our furniture is made in advance, which ensures that all products are available in stock immediately.

This organization guarantees quick delivery while maintaining strict quality control on each product.

It depends on the model.

Many sideboards, display cabinets, and dressers come already assembled, with removable elements protected separately.

Other furniture, such as certain tables (legs to be attached), beds, or large modular furniture, require simple assembly that you can do yourself.

The hardware, detailed instructions, and the appropriate tool (Allen key, screws) are always provided. Generally, you should allow between 10 and 45 minutes depending on the piece and your proficiency.

Specific information regarding assembly (delivered assembled or to be assembled, steps, estimated time) is listed on each product sheet, accompanied by explanatory PDFs.

Feel free to contact our customer service for advice before your purchase and to choose the solution best suited to your needs.

Each product sheet indicates the overall dimensions (W × D × H, in cm) as well as, when relevant, the useful dimensions:

  • Interior of niches/shelves (useful width, depth, height)

  • Drawers (internal width/depth/height)

  • Door clearance and heights under shelf
Solid wood furniture may have a manufacturing tolerance of a few millimeters. To ensure proper installation:

  1. Allow for a safety margin (≥ 1 cm) if the space is constrained.

  2. Take into account baseboards, sockets, handles, and opening of doors/drawers.

  3. Check the passage dimensions (stairs, hallways, doors) for delivery.

  4. Consult the manual/plan available for download when available.
Need a specific dimension not displayed? Contact customer service with the reference: we will confirm it for you.

In accordance with the AGEC law (Anti-Waste for a Circular Economy), we offer a used furniture take-back service when purchasing new furniture on our site.

This take-back is subject to specific conditions detailed in our General Terms and Conditions of Sale (GTC).
You can consult these conditions at any time here: [link to the GTC].

In Europe, all commercialized wood, whether certified by FSC or not, is subject to strict regulation. The European Union Timber Regulation (EUTR) requires each importer or producer to ensure the traceability and legality of the wood's origin. Thus, wood not certified by FSC is not necessarily illegal or untraced, as long as it complies with the requirements of this regulation.

1. FSC Furniture

  • Certification: Label from the Forest Stewardship Council, an independent international organization.

  • Objective: Ensure that the wood comes from forests managed according to specific environmental, social, and economic criteria, audited by a third party.

  • Main Advantage: Immediate international recognition; useful for reassuring consumers sensitive to ecological issues or for accessing certain public/private markets that require certification.

2. Non-FSC Furniture

  • Origin: May come from sustainably managed forests or not, but in Europe, must comply with the legal requirements for traceability and responsible management defined by the EUTR.

  • Example: In France, the majority of wood sold by the ONF (National Forest Office) does not carry the FSC label, while still coming from public forests managed sustainably according to strict management plans.

  • Main Advantage: Can offer the same quality and durability as FSC, but without the additional cost associated with certification.

In summary:

  • FSC: Guarantee of compliance with a specific international standard, with a globally recognized logo.

  • Non-FSC (in Europe): Legally traced wood, subject to strict management and documentation requirements, which can be just as sustainable but without a specific label.

One needs — or rather, one might benefit — from FSC in Europe not to "replace" the law, but to add an additional layer of guarantees, communication, and access to certain markets.
Here are the main reasons:

  1. An international standard beyond Europe
European regulation (RBUE/EUTR) is strict, but it only applies to the European market. FSC is recognized in over 80 countries: the same label allows for easier international sales, where local standards may be less strict.

  2. Marketing and commercial differentiation
In a saturated market, the FSC logo is an immediate marker for consumers who do not know the intricacies of the legislation. Some retailers, marketplaces, or public markets require a minimum percentage of FSC or PEFC certified wood in their purchases, even if the law suffices legally.

  3. Verification by an independent third party
With FSC, forest management and the chain of custody are audited by an external organization. This provides additional confidence to certain buyers who want proof beyond mere legal compliance.

  4. Simplified communication
European law does not provide a logo or simple mention to affix to a product. FSC allows for instant communication of the company's environmental commitment, without having to explain the entire legal framework to each customer.

In short:
In Europe, FSC is not an obligation and is not the only proof of responsible management. However, it remains a tool for commercial enhancement, international trust, and easier access to certain clients and markets.

Robindesbois.com has chosen to offer FSC furniture and others that are not certified. The certification adds an additional cost to the wood we purchase, resulting in a significant price difference for an otherwise similar product. It's up to you to make your choice according to your own free will.

Our catalog is available online at Robindesbois.com.
It includes over 580 references of mid-range and high-end furniture: sideboards, dressers, beds, armchairs, desks, tables, chairs, display cabinets, and much more.

Limited Series: limited editions (colors/finishes/fabrics) produced inlimited quantities; onceExhausted, they cando not return

During their lifetime, some furniture pieces may experience minor accidents: a scratch, a damaged corner, an aesthetic defect... Nothing that undermines their sturdiness or beauty, but just enough to exclude them from classic sales.

Rather than destroying them, we have chosen a more responsible path: giving them a new life in a home that will appreciate them.

Why this program?

  • Because each piece of furniture represents hours of meticulous work

  • Because a visual defect does not take away its charm or functionality

  • Because many of you are looking for beautiful pieces at affordable prices

  • And because waste is not part of our values

We use both techniques, depending on the function of each piece and the size of the furniture.

  • Solid wood (oak, acacia, pine, rubberwood): ideal for stressed structures (legs, frames, rails, edges) and assembly areas. Solid wood provides strength, repairability, and durability.

  • Real wood veneer (wood sheet) on a stable core (plywood or MDF quality E1/CARB P2 depending on the models) for large flat surfaces (tops, sides, doors). This limits the natural deformations of the wood (warping/bending), reduces weight, optimizes cost, and makes better use of the material.

  • The veneer is not a printed decor: it is real wood, finished like solid wood. The edges are generally bordered with a solid wood strip for better durability over time.

  • Advantages of the mix: dimensional stability, controlled weight, fair price, and responsible resource management.

  • Since wood is natural, knots, color variations, and more or less pronounced grain patterns may appear: these characteristics do not alter the quality and do not constitute a defect.

  • Maintenance: soft, slightly damp cloth, no abrasives or aggressive solvents; follow the instructions (varnish/oil) to maintain the finish.

According to the constraints of the furniture:

  • Tenon/mortise (solid wood structure): rigidity and longevity.

  • Dowels / biscuits (E0 panels): precise alignment, reliable gluing.

  • Structural screwing (reinforcements, frames): targeted disassembly.

  • Finger-jointing: massive stabilized boards for wide panels.

  • Grooving/fitted backs: bracing of the unit.
The mix of joinery optimizes stability, weight, and durability.

Medium (Medium Density Fiberboard)

  • Composition: wood fibers + resin → homogeneous and smooth panel.

  • Advantages: clean machining (profiles, grooves), ideal surface for veneer or lacquer; sharp edges.

  • Limitations: heavier than plywood with equivalent rigidity; sensitivity to water if not waterproof.

  • Uses in our products: decorative facades, profiled doors, veneered tops with demanding finishes.

  • Health/emissions: panels of class E0 / CARB P2 depending on models.

Plywood (CP)

  • Composition: crossed wood veneers → excellent rigidity and stability.

  • Advantages: good stiffness/weight ratio, better screw retention than MDF/particle board, performs well over long spans.

  • Limitations: more expensive; “multi-ply” edge appearance that needs finishing (ABS/wood edge or solid wood strip on sensitive areas).

  • Uses in our products: large structural surfaces (back of furniture), high-end grooved backs, elements that need to support/carry.

Particle Board (not used in our furniture)

  • Composition: chips + resin → economical and flat panel.

  • Advantages: good cost/flatness, accepts veneer or melamine decor.

  • Limitations: lower screw retention, sensitivity to moisture, best reserved for less stressed areas.

  • Uses in our products: None. We do not use this material as it is deemed too fragile.

How do we choose?

  • Long spans / priority on rigidity → plywood (with reinforcements/central legs if necessary).

  • Quality of machining/finishing (profile, lacquer, precise veneer) → Medium.

  • Edges & corners: protected by solid wood edge; on impact areas, we install a solid wood frame.

Takeaway: No solution is “universally better”. We mix materials to optimize stability, durability, weight, and cost, according to the design and use of the furniture.

The E0 class refers to panels with very low formaldehyde emission. We use only E0 panels (MDF, plywood, particleboard as applicable) to combine indoor air quality, stability, and durability. The product sheets indicate the type of panel used.

The table apron is the wooden strip located just below the tabletop, slightly set back from the outer edge. Its shape generally follows the contour and profile of the tabletop edge.

It serves two essential functions:

  1. Enhancing strength – The apron helps maintain the sturdiness and integrity of the table, even when it is extended. It reinforces the upper part and stabilizes the whole, which is particularly important for large lengths, as seen in models like Jade or Aude with their five extensions.

  2. Improving aesthetics and concealing the mechanism – The apron hides the sliding rails and other mechanisms located underneath the tabletop, which are necessary for extension and stability maintenance. To visualize the difference, compare, for example, the Arlington table (without an apron) to the Florence or Ambre (with an apron).

An extension apron is simply a continuation of the main table apron. With this system, when you add the extensions, a uniform wooden strip surrounds the entire tabletop. Without an apron, a gap forms between the ends, while with it, the appearance is perfectly seamless.

If this gap doesn't bother you, the absence of an apron on the extensions is not a major drawback for a reasonably sized table with one or two extensions. Long extendable tables are designed with internal reinforcements to compensate. However, for butterfly-type integrated extension tables – like the Baltimore or Athena models – it is often impossible to keep an apron on the extensions to allow for internal storage and maintain a comfortable height above the legs.

The butterfly extension present on the Baltimore table or the Athèna table is stored directly inside the table.

Here's how to use it:

  1. Unlock the latches under the table that secure the table.
  2. Lift up the apron that is folded downward.

  3. Completely tilt the extension to the other side of the table.

  4. Move forward the second part of the apron.

  5. Lift the folded tabletop towards you: it will unfold to form the extension.

  6. Finally, push the ends of the table towards each other to close it.

  7. Lock the latches under the table.

The butterfly extension table is an ingenious solution for saving space in an instant: easy to open, just as simple to store.

Bed 90 x 190 cm:
The HANNAH bed can support a load of approximately 50 kg/m², which is about 100 kg with a mattress evenly distributed across the slats (when lying down).
⚠️ This capacity does not apply to a localized load (for example, a person standing on a slat), which could damage the structure.

Bed 160 x 190/200 cm:
The load capacity is also 50 kg/m² with a mattress placed on it. Even distribution of weight across the entire surface is essential to ensure the bed's stability.

It is possible that natural phenomena may affect your wooden furniture, especially in specific environments. Furniture, like our Toulouse bookshelf, reacts to variations in air humidity. In more humid areas, two effects can occur:

  1. Rising tannins: Wood contains natural pigments called tannins. In the presence of humidity, these pigments can migrate to the wood's surface and create visible stains through the paint.

  2. Wood movement: Humidity can cause a slight expansion of certain parts of the furniture, which can lead to issues like door blockage.

These phenomena are related to the very nature of wood, which, although durable and aesthetic, remains a "living" material reacting to its environment. If your home is located in a humid area, these effects may be accentuated.

We understand that these inconveniences can be frustrating. If you wish to limit these effects, we can recommend simple solutions, such as adjusting the doors or applying an insulating product before a new coat of paint. Feel free to contact us for more details on these tips.

Yes. Wood is a living material: color, grain, and knots can vary from one piece to another (oak, acacia, pine, rubberwood). Slight differences compared to the studio photos are normal (lighting, screen). We ensure visual consistency by batches, while preserving the authentic character of the wood. To validate your choice, you can request samples and view the detail photos on each product page.

Slight differences in shade may appear between your screens (calibration, brightness, “vivid” mode) and the actual appearance, as well as depending on the lighting (studio, daylight, warm/cool bulbs). Our photos are taken in controlled lighting and detailed views are provided on each product page.

  • Natural wood: oak, acacia, pine, and rubberwood feature knots, color variations, and a more or less pronounced grain — these characteristics do not affect the quality and do not constitute a defect.

  • Textiles: we offer fabric samples (linen, cotton velvet, polyester velvet) to validate shade and feel.
Tip: compare the photos in daylight and check the finish descriptions on the product page.

At Robin des Bois, we use the international standards GS1 Digital Link to ensure the authenticity and traceability of our products. This technology allows each product to be associated with a unique, verifiable, and secure link.

The GS1 Digital Link replaces the simple barcode with an intelligent URL, containing all the key information about the product (description, manufacturer, features, availability, etc.).

Advantages:

  • Product authentication via its GTIN code

  • Better transparency for the customer

  • Strengthening of brand trust and reputation

The multiple finger-jointing (also called finger-joint) is a solid wood joining technique that involves joining short boards with glued "finger" teeth under pressure to form long and stable boards. These boards can then be edge-glued to create a solid panel (tabletop, front, upright).
Why do we use it?

  • Dimensional stability: the controlled orientation of fibers and finger-jointing limit warping and cracking compared to large single-piece boards.

  • Durability & precision: consistent industrial assembly, good long-term maintenance, mechanical strength suitable for furniture use.

  • Resource optimization: healthy boards from optimized cuts are used, which reduces waste.

  • True wood aesthetics: 100% wood finish, with natural grain and variations (possible presence of knots).
    Technically

  • Steps: 1) finger-jointing short boards with multiple joints → long boards; 2) edge-gluingsolid panel.

  • Gluing and pressing are done in the workshop according to our quality procedures.
    In practice

  • Ideal for tabletops, fronts, and large elements requiring stability and solid appearance.

  • Maintenance: slightly damp soft cloth, then dry; use coasters and trivets.

  • Material reminder: since wood is natural, knots, color variations, and grain are not considered defects.

Ball Bearing Slides (side or undermount)

  • Slide: smooth and consistent, often in full extension.

  • Load: higher with the same space requirement (ideal for deep/heavy drawers).

  • Comfort: frequent soft-close versions; adjustable lateral play.

  • Usage: kitchen, hi-fi, heavy storage, deep drawers.

  • Maintenance: dust off; do not oil (risk of clogging).

Roller Slides (wheels)

  • Slide: decent but less consistent under heavy load; often partial extension.

  • Load: more limited; reserved for light/medium drawers.

  • Comfort: soft-close is rarer; simpler adjustments.

  • Usage: small drawers, light storage.

What We Recommend

  • Frequently used/deep drawersball bearing slides (often soft-close).

  • Small storagewheels possible depending on design.

  • Always respect the load capacity indicated by the model and distribute the weight.

  • For a drawer that rubs or bounces: level the furniture, reclip correctly, then adjust height/lateral/depth (see our FAQ 1–2 & 11).

  • Matte: discreet reflection, better masks micro-scratches and marks, natural wood finish.

  • Satin: enhances the grain, easy maintenance, slightly smoother feel to the touch.

In both cases, our varnishes are applied to selected surfaces and aim for everyday protection. Avoid abrasives/solvents; clean with a soft cloth slightly damp and then dry. Material reminder: knots, color variations, and grain are natural and do not constitute a defect.

Solid wood is a living material that reacts to ambient humidity. When the air is dry, it contracts; when the air is humid, it expands. This movement can cause cracks or slight warping if the design or maintenance does not take this natural phenomenon into account.

All types of wood work, but not in the same way. Quarter-sawn oak offers good stability. Conversely, maple or flat-sawn wood exhibit more dimensional variations. Therefore, the choice of wood type and cutting method greatly influences the durability and stability of a piece of furniture.

No, no finish can block the movement of wood. Oils, waxes, and varnishes slow down the exchange of moisture, but the wood will always continue to breathe. The best approach is to anticipate this movement from the design stage and to regularly maintain your furniture.
